Los libros son como la gente: el lugar que ocupan en el mundo no tiene ninguna relación con el universo que contienen adentro. La mayoría de las veces no puedo saber lo que hay adentro con sólo mirar el aspecto exterior; puede llevarme un buen rato, y bastante trabajo, conocerlos realmente. A veces se presentan divertidos y novedosos, hasta perfumados, con sus letras bailarinas y sus colores apabullantes, pero me basta con leer las primeras palabras para reconocer que no son más que eso: un poco de ruido sin mucho que decir. Afortunadamente, cada tanto encuentro alguno que aparenta ser común o aburrido, o muy viejo y ya pasado de moda, o que se cae a pedazos, casi decrepito y con un olor raro, pero puede ser justamente ese el que me permita entrar a un apasionante e inexplorado universo, cada vez que lo abra.
Books are like people: the space they occupy in the world doesn't have any relationship with the universe they hold inside. Most times I can't know what's inside by looking only at their appearance; it can take me a while, and some work, to really get to know them. Sometimes they seem fun and trendy, almost with perfume, with their dancing letters and their overwhelming colors, but I need only to read the first words to recognize they are nothing but that: a little noise with not much to say. Fortunately, every once in a while I might find one that looks very common or boring, or too old and outdated, or falling apart, almost decrepit and with a funny smell, but that one can be the one that will allow me to enter a fascinating and unexplored universe, every time I open it.
